CPython

Serving as the reference implementation of the Python programming language, CPython is written in both C and Python. It functions as an interpreter and a compiler, translating Python code into bytecode prior to interpretation. The Python Software Foundation, along with Python core developers and the community, are responsible for its development. The initial release was on 26 January 1994, with Guido van Rossum as the original author.
