Liminal

Referring to a transitional or initial stage of a process, the term 'liminal' also pertains to occupying a position at, or on both sides of, a boundary or threshold. It is often used in psychology, anthropology, and philosophy to describe a state of ambiguity or disorientation that occurs in the middle of rituals or significant life transitions.
