By Google Search Volume Growth (Last 10 Years)

What does this show?

Interest around “Twitter followers” peaked before 2014 and has fallen massively since. Meanwhile, searches for “LinkedIn followers” has grown consistently year after year.

But the absolute number of searches for “Twitter followers” is MUCH higher than “LinkedIn followers”.

It’s worth noting:

LinkedIn is better known for connections and “LinkedIn connections” has 4,400 searches per month. So over 2X people search for “LinkedIn connections” versus “LinkedIn followers”. That said, LinkedIn followers are still comparable to Twitter followers. Which is why we used them for this analysis.

So overall, we can see interest in LinkedIn followers is booming right now. Maybe people realize there’s a lot of untapped opportunity on LinkedIn thanks to its super high organic reach. On the other hand, interest in Twitter followers looks to have fizzled out.
