Referring to Software-Defined Wide Area Network, SD-WAN is a specialized type of wide area network that employs software-defined networking technology. It operates over the internet via encrypted overlay tunnels when aimed for internal organization locations. A centralized control function is used to direct traffic securely and intelligently across the WAN and directly to trusted SaaS and IaaS providers.
