User interface designs crafted to trick or manipulate users into making decisions they might not otherwise make. These designs exploit cognitive biases and can lead to actions such as unwittingly signing up for subscriptions, sharing more personal information than intended, or making unintended purchases. Dark patterns primarily affect online consumers who may not be fully aware of the manipulative tactics being used against them.
