Polio eradication

Global health initiative aimed at eliminating poliomyelitis through widespread vaccination, surveillance, outbreak response, routine immunization, and public awareness. Significant progress has been made since the launch of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988, with the disease now endemic in only a few countries. The initiative primarily benefits children in regions where polio is still a threat, as well as global public health by aiming to eradicate the disease entirely.
