By Google Search Volume Growth (Last 3 Months)

What does this show?

Demand for both products has grown very quickly because of COVID-19. But searches for “face mask” are growing MUCH faster than searches for “toilet paper”.

And it’s worth noting:

“Toilet paper” searches peaked on March 14th, and have started to return to almost pre-crisis levels. On the other hand, the demand for “face mask”s isn’t slowing down.

So overall, we can see that demand for toilet paper had a crazy spike initially. But now it’s fading as people realize shortages aren’t a real concern. However, demand for face masks continues to explode as both people and governments realize that face masks could be an effective way to slow the spread of coronavirus.
