Originating in the 1700s, the Yakuza are organized crime syndicates from Japan. Initially, they controlled market booths and were known for deceptive salesmanship. In the present day, the largest Yakuza family is the Yamaguchi-gumi, which directs criminal activities both within Japan and internationally.
