The productivity software market is largely shared by two main players: Google Apps and Microsoft Office 365. Together, they have a combined market share of approximately 96%.

Google Apps has a market share of just over 50%. While Microsoft Office 365 has around 45%.

Almost without exception, Google applications lead the way for monthly users across the board.

Google Drive

Google Drive has more than 2 billion active monthly users.

By comparison, Dropbox has over 700 million users per month

Google Docs

There are over 1 billion active users per month on Google Docs.

Microsoft Word has around 750 million monthly users.

Google Sheets

More than 900 million people are using Google Sheets each month.

That’s around 200 million more than Microsoft Excel’s 700 million users.

Google Slides

More than 800 million people use Google Slides every month. 

Not far behind, Microsoft’s PowerPoint has over 650 million active monthly users.

Gmail

Google’s email service, Gmail (over 1.5 billion users per month), has around 3x more monthly users than Microsoft Outlook (over 450 million).

Google Meet

With over 300 million monthly users, Google Meet has around double the amount of users as Microsoft Teams (over 145 million).

Google Chat

Over 100 million people are using Google Chat each month. That’s still significantly less than Zoom’s 700 million+.

Google Calendar

Google Calendar has more than 500 million users per month.
