Jungle Scout's product data, optimization tools, and market research insights make it a popular tool among dropshippers and Amazon FBA entrepreneurs. But Exploding Topics' trend insights are also a favorite of e-commerce store owners—so which market and product research tool is the best choice for Amazon sellers?

Ways to Use Jungle Scout and Exploding Topics

Many Amazon sellers use Jungle Scout for:

  • Competitor and market research, including gathering insights about competitor inventory and typical sale prices
  • Product discovery, complete with pricing data and projected sales volume estimates
  • Inventory management, from listing optimization to improving customer review rates

I've used Jungle Scout myself, and the tool does contain a wealth of information about Amazon sales volume, keywords, and competitors. It's useful for both established brands that use Amazon as one of many sales channels, dropshippers, and for "FBA-only" businesses that exclusively sell through the "fulfilled by Amazon" program.

The Amazon FBA landing page shows a graphic of an Amazon truck along with information about cost savings for sellers.

Note: In the past, "FBA-only" business models made sense for many smaller entrepreneurs, as all you had to do was send your inventory to Amazon and they'd take care of packing and shipping it. As of 2026, though, FBA customers in the U.S. are responsible for pre-packing inventory before it's shipped to Amazon.

If that change means that Amazon is no longer your only e-commerce channel, then you might find Jungle Scout limiting. Its data is highly specific to the Amazon platform and may not translate well to optimizing listings on TikTok shop or your own Shopify website.

Whether you find yourself at that crossroads or simply aren't sure if you should invest in Jungle Scout, consider the comparisons in this guide.

Conduct Competitor and Market Research

Jungle Scout includes tools for:

  • Competitive analysis
  • Market analysis
  • Amazon listing analysis
  • Segmentation insights

The blue Jungle Scout homepage shows charts and graphs related to Amazon products and revenue.

The insights that Jungle Scout provides around competitors are very useful. The issue, however, is that these market and competitive research tools are only available on Jungle Scout's most expensive plan, which costs $129 per month.

And if your competitors and audience use commerce platforms other than Amazon—like TikTok Shop—you're out of luck. Jungle Scout's data is only relevant to Amazon sales.

While Exploding Topics isn't strictly e-commerce focused like Jungle Scout, the platform does offer useful insights about:

  • Where your target audience is gathering online
  • How current trends and topics relate to each other
  • What competitor-specific terms and topics are popular online right now

These insights are available to Exploding Topics Pro subscribers with an Entrepreneur plan ($39 per month, billed annually) or higher.

The Exploding Topics Pro landing page shows trend graphs in a line.

The verdict: If you only sell on Amazon and your budget can support Jungle Scout's most expensive tier, you'll likely find the platform's data to be worth the cost. Otherwise, the diversity of information contained in Exploding Topics' dataset will be more useful to a broader range of brands.

Find Trending Product Opportunities

Jungle Scout is known and loved by many for its product discovery functionality. Amazon sellers can use the platform to:

  • View information about emerging trends as you browse Amazon
  • Estimate your possible product sales per month
  • Track the performance of specific products
  • Check Amazon search terms for the past month or more, depending on plan

This information can help you find popular products and figure out if they're worth adding to your own Amazon storefront. The one thing that Jungle Scout doesn't offer every customer, though, is the ability to see search trends in addition to keyword data.

If you're on Jungle Scout's most basic plan tier, you can see what people search for but not how search volume has changed over time. And as an SEO professional who's done work with Amazon brands in the past, I think that seeing trend patterns is an important part of deciding what products are really worth adding to your inventory.

Luckily, you can get historical trend and search data from Exploding Topics. Even if you choose to use Jungle Scout for most of your product research needs, I still recommend adding Exploding Topics to your tech stack so you can build out the full picture of product performance and popularity.

Exploding Topics shows you:

  • Popular products on Amazon and TikTok shop
  • Typical search engine volume for related keywords, revenue, price, and review data
  • The other channels these products are popular on right now
  • Current and previous trend data for the past 15 years

The Exploding Topics trending products page shows popular items, sales volume, typical rating, and more.

The verdict: Once again, if you're only selling products on Amazon, then Jungle Scout's product discovery tools will be enough–though adding the Exploding Topics newsletter and a free Semrush account into the mix will help a lot. Anyone selling on their own website or via social media will get more of the vital information they need from an Exploding Topics Pro subscription.

Manage Inventory and Reviews

Jungle Scout's seller tools are what really set it apart from other, similar products on the market. If you subscribe to the Growth Accelerator (or higher) tier, you'll get access to:

  • Review automation tools
  • Rank trackers
  • Listing analyzers
  • Listing building tools
  • Inventory management trackers
  • Supplier trackers
  • Specialized AI tools

There isn't a comparable inventory management feature in Exploding Topics. If you sell on Amazon and want features beyond what's available in your seller account, you'll need to use JungleScout or another Amazon product research tool.

The verdict: Jungle Scout is the way to go when you need inventory and review management features that integrate with your Amazon account.

How Much Will You Spend on Jungle Scout or Exploding Topics?

Price is, of course, another consideration when evaluating product research tools. Jungle Scout has no free tier — all users must pay, and pricing starts at $29 per month when billed annually for basic features. The platform recommends its users sign up for plans based on their annual Amazon revenue:

Exploding Topics also offers a variety of pricing tiers based on features.

Which Amazon Product Tool is Right for You?

If you only sell on Amazon and have at least $50 per month to spend on one of Jungle Scout's higher subscription tiers, I think that the platform's product database and advanced features will be useful for your work.

This is a select group of users, though. Most people will be best served by a tool like Exploding Topics, which shows you information beyond the Amazon platform. Even if you push customers to Amazon for checkout, knowing how products trend on different platforms is important for organic marketing, ads, social media, and more.

My recommendation: Start with an Exploding Topics Pro Entrepreneur account for $39 per month (billed annually). See how the data you get from Exploding Topics dovetails with the insights contained in your Amazon seller account, then decide how you'd like to adjust your research strategy as your sales grow. I'm confident that once you see the vast product insights and channel metrics included in Exploding Topics Pro, you'll feel well-prepared to boost your sales on Amazon—and off.
